Self Portrait: An Installation

Pat Steir worked created an installation for the New York School of Drawing, Painting, and Sculpture that was in view from 1987 to 2009. This installation was a study of the human body that was drawn on the walls in Steir's style. Steir drew bodies, eyes, ears, lips, and noses. All of these were mathematically planned out to have correct proportions. It is a great study of the human body and or proportions. This installation is much different from the normal work of Steir, but she still incorporates some of her drip painting and use of color into the space.
Here are the photos from the installation:

Agnes Martin: Inspiration

Pat Steir draws inspiration from Agnes Martin, an artist who deals with color blocking and line. Agnes's work uses very geometrical line and shape to create a very structured final product. She also uses color blocking and single solid colors to define shapes. Agnes's works draws parallels with Steir's because of the use of limited and solid colors. Both of the artist's works challenge the viewers to think intellectually. They do not define what the work is about and leave that entirely up to the viewer. For Steir, she does not want to place any of her own views and opinions into her work so it is solely her audiences thoughts and interpretations of the work. Though Martin approaches her work with a spiritual vision, the work can be interoperated in any direction. Both choose a modern and abstract style that leaves their artwork open ended.
Her are some examples of Martins work:
"Stars"
These are prints done in 1998.
As you can see, Martin and Steir both have this idea of minimalist and abstract ways of approaching line and shape that define their art and make it unique and thought provoking.
